WML provided full civil and structural design for the new two-storey Family Resilience and High Needs Centre, located in North Birkbeck, London. The facility is designed to help support vulnerable children across the borough.
Construction was predominantly modular construction, with a traditional steel framed hall to the rear. Almost two thirds of the construction was completed off-site. Piled foundations were utilised due to the deep made ground on site.
The project achieved BREEAM ‘Very Good’. The building is fully electrical with 77 PV Solar panels on the roof.
Challenges
The project needed to be carefully phased due to the site being tight and located in a residential area. Utilising offsite modular construction helped alleviate the amount of work needed to be undertaken on site - minimising the disruption to surrounding residents.
