Design of a new 2 storey 2500m sq two form entry primary school on a brown field site. The Park View development brought together two existing schools, St Marks and Miles Platting Primary School. The development was set on the site of previous St Marks school and the design accommodated a newly developed SureStart nursery located in the middle of the site.

The new facilities included an ICT suite, an amphitheatre for outside dining and activities, a play area with a climbing wall and a terrace overlooking the canal.

Manchester City Council set a challenging target to deliver a building which had carbon emissions 25% better than Part L 2006 and 20% on site renewable energy sources within a fixed budget.

Prior to stage C WML worked closely with the D&B Contractor and Design Team to review options for the form of construction to determine the most economic integrated solution, giving the required environmental targets.

The completed building achieved better than targeted, with 53% reduction in CO2, 55% on site renewable energy, an EPC rating of A23 (top 0.1% of Primary Schools in England) and BREEAM rating Very Good.
