Construction of two new speculative industrial units on a site adjacent to Sheffield / Doncaster Airport.
The site was previously part of the larger airport boundary when it served as a World War aerodrome. The site was cleared and levelled prior to development as part of the Airport Masterplan works.
The two units were of portal frame construction with composite cladding elevations. Both buildings included office areas at mezzanine floor level and loading docks at the rear. The mezzanine level was constructed as composite metal deck slab.
The foundations solution was selected as traditional spread footings and ground bearing industrial floor slab, both supported on existing made ground that was treated using vibro stone columns ground improvement technique.
The units were provided with car parking areas to the front and concrete paved yard areas to the rear, with shared access road from existing highway.
The surface water drainage solution included below ground attenuation tanks, soakaways and an outfall to the nearby watercourse.
